The year 1897 brought new leadership to the facility, with a new director, Oliver Dewing, who had been serving as the general superintendent. A new house for the director was built, and Dr. Dewing moved in and assumed his new role. The actual move was held up for a year until suitable accommodations could be provided.
By this time, it was becoming increasingly difficult to administer the Kings Park branch from the offices in the Flatbush hospital.
